The Modespeicher Block R was built between 1890 and 1892 during the second construction phase of the Speicherstadt. At that time it still served as a classic coffee warehouse. At the end of the 19th century, green coffee was hulled and sorted in the historic building. For its current use, the building was refurbished in 2012 and modern office and showroom space was created on the upper floors. On the ground floor and in the basement there is a café with its own roastery and a museum.
