The Zürichhaus in Hamburg-Altstadt directly adjoins the Afrikahaus and is located at the junction of Domstraße/Willy-Brandt-Straße, opposite the am Neß development project. From here it is a short distance to the Jungfernstieg, the Mönckebergstraße and also to the harbour and the Elbe. The Zürichhaus was built between 1989 and 1992. The building plans were drawn up by the architects Gerkan, Marg und Partner; the design of the halls with water basins and trees was based on plans by Hinnerk Wehberg, Gustav Lange, Gundolf Eppinger and Wieland Schmidtke.

The office building has a conventional clinker brick façade of the kind built in the Kontorhausviertel in the 1920s. The building has a comb-shaped floor plan. As protection against noise and dust, this encloses two glazed entrance halls/atria. The side of the building facing Willy-Brandt-Straße has a convex curved glass front placed in front of the actual façade, which is intended to serve this function here.
