About the building

Right on Hamburg's Rödingsmarkt, the cotton merchant Wilhelm Klöpper built a prestigious address for his company in 1904. From the Klöpperhaus, one of Hamburg's first Kontorhäuser, it is just one U3 stop to the first harbour quay, the Jungfernstieg is a few minutes' walk away, and the Elbphilharmonie unfolds its spectacular silhouette almost within sight.

Nowhere in Hamburg is the entrepreneurial spirit more at home than at Rödingsmarkt, today with the Klöpperhaus's main tenant, the co-working space Mindspace, and in earlier times as the cradle of the merchant city. In the 12th century, Dutch settlers laid out canals and streets for transporting goods from the harbour into the city centre. With the construction of the Speicherstadt in the 19th century, many of these canals became obsolete and were filled in. Today the U3 runs where barges once travelled between city and harbour.

Seven storeys of Jugendstil with playful ornamentation and carefully restored details give the monumental building complex a historic patina; behind it, state-of-the-art, loft-style working environments open up. Individual working areas can be created on all seven floors. Separate workstations are turned into open office space in no time, and vice versa. Depending on requirements, the rooms can even be divided or partitioned off. Modern fit-out turns the loft-style floors into forward-looking working environments for your company.
