The Zeisehallen, with their historic brick façade, are a well-known building complex in Ottensen, originally built as a factory for the production of ship propellers. The history of the building can be felt quite literally, for example through deliberately restored brickwork, remains of a gantry crane, the torso of a chimney or propeller casting moulds set into the floor. Today, the Zeisehallen on Friedensallee are used primarily as an event and cultural centre. The historic site also includes residential buildings as well as office and retail space. The northern hall houses a restaurant and further facilities for film and theatre. The southern hall, by contrast, was converted into an arcade with shops, the well-known Zeise Kino cinema and office space.
